In a cost cutting measure, Olympus is thinking about sharing common camera parts with Sony. This has been declared “under consideration” by Olympus’s president Hiroyuki Sasa. While this decision isn’t final, it isn’t a farfetched idea. Olympus is already using Sony sensors in some products and Sony recently became the largest shareholder in Olympus. As more news develops we will keep you informed.
As it is, the gentleman’s agreement made between the two companies also involved Sony using some of the lens technology that Olympus has. Beyond this, the A7 and A7r look very much like the OMD cameras.
