Oh man, this isn’t good news. According to a report on 43Rumors, DxOMark is concluding that Panasonic’s newer version of their venerable 20mm f1.7 isn’t up to the performance of the older version. The overall performance scores show that this new version vignettes more and isn’t as sharp as the older lens. However, they’re saying that this is overall quite negligible. In some ways, we can probably agree due to just how good modern software is at editing and removing lens issues.
So what does this mean? Well, if you’re one of the folks that swear by the lens, you can still cuddle with it at night and whisper sweet nothings into its Aspherical elements.
Still though, it’s a bit disappointing that Panasonic did this.
