SLRMagic Shows Off Image Samples From Anamorphic Adapter Prototype

SLRMagic put it out there a while ago that they were working on an anamorphic adapter. But today on the Personal View forums, they finally offered some image samples. They took a Canon 50mm f1.4 and slapped it onto a Canon 1Ds Mk II with the adapter attached; then stopped it down to f2.8. Then they cut off the top and bottoms of the images to simulate a 16:9 HD recording mode then applied compression on the height and width to simulate a full resolution 2.35:1 anamorphic ratio image.

According to the company, it was designed for use with sensors bigger than Micro Four Thirds–but they’re saying that the image quality isn’t as good as it would be with a Four Thirds sensor. However, they state that it can cover a full frame area and render no vignetting. Pretty damned good news for you video guys!

This prototype doesn’t have a lens coating yet, so that trademark anamorphic flare is quite pronounced.
