When it comes to Micro Four Thirds cameras, there are some models that have proven their worth. For instance, Pen F or G9 are some cameras that have great recall value. However, it appears that some cameras, despite not being the best, are now fetching a lot of money. Why? Let’s find out.
The camera we are talking about is the Panasonic Lumix GH6. Our reviewer, Alberto Lima, was the one to find out that the camera kit had sold for $1862. On WatchCount, you see various versions of the camera that have fetched close to similar prices.

This is surprising given that the GH6 was launched in 2022, and did not really favor photographers or videographers, both of whom were its target audience. The camera was created for hybrid use, but it had some flaws, making the model pricey even for its time. As we said in our review then:
The GH6 feels like two steps forward, one step backward. The battery life is worse than the GH5. The body is larger than even the full-frame S5. It’s missing features like Live Composite and Focus Stacking that the older GH5 had, as well as features like Animal Eye AF that competing cameras offer. And there are faster autofocus systems at this price point.
Upon its launch, the GH6 was priced at $2265. Today, the price has depreciated a little, but it continues to be researched and sold. On Reddit’s R/Lumix thread, there are photographers still considering the camera for their needs, such as wildlife photography and video, but also travel photography. However, numerous people are using for video needs rather than photography.
The GH6 features a 25MP sensor, which made it the highest resolution MFT camera of its time. They also introduced a process that allowed the camera to “low ISO and a high ISO signal at the same time.” However, today, the camera is a bit antiquated. As we said in our update, one can always rely on models such as the Panasonic HC-X2000 along with the G9 II:
The truth is that you’re rarely doing both photo and video with the same camera. If you’re shooting video, then you’re fully speccing your camera into video. And when you need to shoot stills, you’re going to configure it for stills shooting. The two need to separate because there are very big differences in the needs for video and photo. And over the long run, we’re not sure the GH6 is worth it for a serious working photographer. Panasonic instead had other, much better options.
Panasonic S5 II and the S1 are also priced the same, and they work well even today. One can often look at these offerings. However, it appears that some trends take longer to end than others.
