Over the past few years, Adobe has introduced changes that have only hurt photographers. From AI-driven tech to the incessant price hike, the company is only looking to make a profit instead of improving its portfolio. Per reports, the company has announced another price raise, which, per Reddit users, is now 51% more for the photography plan. If you are someone who is looking to switch from Adobe Lightroom, then we do have a few options you can look at for your future.
Capture One

The Phoblographer team has always stood by Capture One. With various updates and plans, Capture One is an ideal alternative to Adobe Lightroom. The software offers better color rendering, has various Nikon profiles, and they were the first to introduce Fujifilm simulations to RAW files while editing. You can move the tools around, based on your needs for a perfect workflow, but once you get the hang of it, it is far easier. With Capture One 23, features like smart adjust, grouping tool, Capture One Live, and cull button make your workflow smoother. In fact, you can have recipes ready, which can differ based on your needs for the website, social media, or just client work.
ON1 Photo RAW

Another alternative to Lightroom and Photoshop, the ON1 offers the best of both worlds. The software can manage and edit your photos, and features multiple AI alternatives for anyone looking to reduce their time. It features layers, and focus tracking, as well Develop, Effects, Portrait AI, Sky Swap AI, NoNoise AI, HDR, and Resize AI. The program also has the ability to recognize your computer’s hard drive and the images on it, which also saves your import time. However, if you wish to use Adobe Plugins and other AI features, you will have to purchase the ON1 Photo RAW MAX.
Darktable

This one is specifically suggested by several Redditors on r/photography thread. Darktable was designed by photographers, and it is an open-source photography software for developing your RAW files. The software allows you to do simple tasks such as crop, exposure fixing, and spot removal, to more advanced features. The interface is designed to keep your workflow efficient, as your metadata and mipmaps are stored in its database. Since it works on cached images, your original images will remain intact. It works on Windows and Mac OS, and also has profile support for sRGB, Adobe RGB, XYZ, and linear RGB colors. And since it is entirely free, there is no harm in trying.
We tested it out for ourselves in 2022, and we weren’t really crazy about it.
These are a few options, with Capture One being the best alternative for professional photographers who do not wish to compromise on their image. However, if you are new to photography or are a student, then you can give ON1 and Darktable a chance.
