Photographing the stars is an experience in itself. Not only does one get a chance to see the ethereal beauty, but also document their vision. While there are multiple cameras that perform well in low light, many of them are also quite expensive. So, today, we take a look at the ones that you can get for much cheaper.
Sony a7 III with 14mm f1.8

Sony has made some of the best cameras and the a7 III is one such model. With a 24MP sensor, a BIONZ X processor, and a 2.36m-dot EVF, amongst other things. The device is weather sealed, built well, and offers pretty amazing image quality. The high ISO results are pretty incredible at 3200, and they are better than that of the a7r III. The dynamic range is incredible too. Along with the Sony 14mm f1.8, you get the best results with ease. The lens offers crispy colors, good sharpness and is also weather sealed. This makes the kit ideal for astrophotography.
Fujifilm XH2 with the 8mm f3.5

Fujifilm XH2 is an APS-C camera with a 40MP sensor, in-built image stabilization, and multiple film simulation modes. The image quality is beautiful, and the colors are quite surreal. The high ISO results are detailed at ISO 6400, making the APS-C an ideal offering for low-light scenes. “With ample lighting, the XH2 is a beast, but so is any other modern camera. In low lighting, you need the fastest Fujifilm primes for it to make a difference,” as we explained in our review. Pair it with Fujifilm 8mm fisheye, you’ll get some exceptional results. The center is sharp, given the nature of this lens. Moreover, you get exceptional colors, making this kit ideal for outdoor users.
OM System OM3 and 12mm f2

The Olympus OM3 offers a 20.4MP 4/3 stacked BSI sensor. OM cameras are not only sturdy and built to withstand different conditions, they are also exceptional for astrophotography due to this feature: live composite. The camera offers exceptional colors, almost life-like and vivid. This camera is better if you are shooting JPEGs, as the image rendition is quite unlike other MFT cameras. As we said in our review, “The camera also survived quite a bit of snowfall in NYC during the mid-late part of January 2025. It indeed shrugged the snow off like it was absolutely nothing.” When used with the 12mm f2 lens, you get a perfect pair that is fast and can work well in the dark.
