Third-party lenses have been pretty important for photographers who need reliable options at a decent cost. While there are many options one can choose from, TTArtisan’s is perhaps the best when it comes to street photography. One of the reasons being that their focal lengths are impressive, and they work pretty well in any condition. Here is a look at the offering we think suits best to those who photograph the streets.
The TTArtisan lens in question is the 40mm f2. With a close focusing distance of 0.4m, it offers 7 aperture blades, 9 elements in 6 groups, and weighs between 167 to 176g, depending on mount. We tested the model on the Panasonic S9, which a pretty perfect camera for those who want to switch to an L-mount.

Speaking about the experience, the 40mm f2 lens is a holistically good lens. It is beautiful, feels right in your hands, and has a nice built quality to it as well. In fact, when used on a small camera, you will not feel the need to change the lens as much. People who have been looking for a single lens that they don’t have to waste their time on, then this one it is.
The TTArtisan 40mm f2 lens is truly something special in so many different ways. It’s small, lightweight, fast to focus, and it makes you really want to bring a small camera like the Panasonic S9 with you everywhere. Japanese manufacturers would never make anything this affordable, and that’s saying something.
As for the autofocus, a must for street photographers, it does wonders. We did not face any challenges during our review. In fact, it is one of the solid autofocus performances we have seen in a while. Use the lens in AF-C mode, then you get the best results, thanks to scene detection/AI. But when you turn it off, the lens can suffer. Either with program auto or aperture priority on, the 40mm lens made shooting a simple affair. The only challenge is a lack of weather sealing, which many third-party lenses do not have.
Now, the overall image quality is very sharp throughout the frame. You also get some nice flare and character, and the bokeh is certainly a perfect addition for most scenes. If you combine real time LUT with the lens, the photographs will certainly be something you’d stare at. You also get plenty of contrast that will make your photos stand out.
Priced at $168, the lens can be used by professionals and enthusiasts alike. Sure, it lacks weather sealing, but at the price point, you are getting pretty much everything you like.
