Landscape photographers have often needed a camera with immense resolution. One of the reasons for it being that it can capture every detail of the scene with ease. While full frame cameras are known for achieving this, APS-C models are not too far gone either. Here is a look at the two best options one can get for this genre.
Fujifilm XH2

What makes it great? The XH2 is a Fujifilm APS-C camera with the highest resolution of 40MP X Trans 5 sensor. It also sports in-built image stabilization, pixel-shift multi-shot, which makes 160MP photos, and a max shutter speed of 1/180,000. It also offers a nice retro body, weather resistance, and it feels much smaller in your hand than the GFX cameras. It would have been nice if the buttons could illuminate in low light, as that would make it easy to work around the device. It also supports camera-to-cloud with a wired smartphone connection.
Why is it so unique? The autofocus of the camera is fast, and even when you are facing back-lit subjects. It also has face detection, as well as automobiles, bikes, trains, and airplanes. The JPEGs are pretty great, and if you use film simulation, you get perfect results. At low ISO with RAW files, you also get depth of field, and a nice dyanmic range to work with. Similarly, at ISO 6400, the results are more detailed than the XT4. Overall, the image quality is what makes it a great companion for many landscape documenters.
Applying the film simulations in Capture One makes the photos look like vivid dreams. For sure, this camera delivers Fujifilm’s best color that I’ve seen in years from the X series. And in many cases, it looks like very well exposed and processed medium format film.
Canon EOS R7

What makes it great? The Canon R7 is one of the best offerings from the company. It is a device that offers a solid build, which is important if you are shooting outdoors. For instance, in our review, the camera was able to withstand rain in NYC, and despite getting wet, it continued to work. Another thing is that it works fantastically with L-series lenses, which are known for their sharpness, color rendition, and ability to capture details. If you pair the device with the right lens, you’ll get stunning results. For those shooting in low light, you get image stabilization, which allows you to get the shot with ease.
Why is it so unique? The R7 has a 32MP sensor, which is a lot for this camera. The camera is known for its fast burst rate and autofocus, which means it won’t be challenging for you to latch your focus on. It did so brilliantly in our test on people and birds, too. Now, speaking about the photos, the results are pretty amazing. The images offer good colors and details, which are important for landscape photographers. The JPEGs are nice right out of the camera, which means you can share them online without much editing. The RAW files also give you nice results in bright light, but they can fall off in low light. So, better to stick to a tripod and a long shutter. JPEGs, on the other hand, allow you to get clean high ISO results up to 12,800.
The build quality is outstanding when paired with equally weather-resistant lenses. And the image quality is a fascinating thing to talk about. The high ISO output is exceptionally clean for a camera like this. In some cases, it even outdoes the Canon EOS R, a full-frame sensor camera.
