The DSLR technology began to actively fade right after the pandemic. The newer CIPA numbers from last year show that shipments have also dropped significantly. However, the truth remains that DSLRs continue to be important for many young photographers who need good cameras on a budget, such as full frames. If you are someone who is keen on buying a new camera, then here is a look at three options that can be ideal for various photographers.
Sony a99 II

The Sony a99 II is a 42.4MP full frame DSLR, with 5-axis image stabilization and a burst rate of 12fps. It houses one of the best viewfinders, good ergonomics with a lot of buttons, and is also weather-sealed. Similarly, the autofocus is best in class, especially given that it was launched in 2016. Like the focus, the Sony DSLR delivers incredible images thanks to its sensor, which is akin to that of the a7R II. You get lots of details in highlights and shadows, and the colors are exceptional too. Professionals and serious enthusiasts will continue to enjoy this.
Canon 5D Mk IV

The Canon 5D Mk IV is another iconic DSLR that many continue to use even today. The device has a 30MP sensor, 7fps of burst rate, and a DIGIC 6+ processor. The DSLR is similar to other models in the same series, as it offers plenty of grip, buttons, and weather sealing. As we explained in our review, “The 5D Mk IV has an almost elegant feeling to it while also feeling very refined and mature.” Adding to this is the flawless performance of the autofocus and the photo quality. Both are great in low light, giving photographers the chance to shoot in any environment. The camera captures dynamic range and details pretty well.
Nikon D500

The Nikon D500 is the only APS-C camera on the list that we recommend for wildlife photographers. One of the reasons is that it offers great image quality and good colors. The high ISO output is clean, allowing photographers to shoot in the dark, as well as stellar RAW file versatility. In our review, we could retrieve “a ridiculous amount of details from the highlights,” which impressed us. Like the images, the focusing capabilities are extraordinary. It nails the focus every time, and the same expectation continues in low light. It is a DSLR that won’t disappoint you even today.
