We dove into our Reviews Index to figure out what cameras and lenses are some of the best to come out of Sony in the past two years. The brand doesn’t many all that many releases, and lots of them are much better than others. But if you’re looking to get something for yourself this holiday season, check these out. Here’s the best Sony camera gear of the last two years.
Sony a9 III

What is it?: The Sony a9 III is the top sports camera for Sony shooters boasting a 24MP full-frame sensor with a global shutter. It makes so many things never before possible in photography absolutely possible now.
Why it’s so great: In our review, we praised the build quality and the creativity that you can accomplish with it. We made photos shot during the day look like it was night. Even with high-speed sync flash, that wasn’t really possible before.
What Makes it Unique?: The global shutter in this camera makes flash techniques possible that couldn’t be done before, and otherwise it removes any issues with rolling shutter when photographing sports and wildlife.
Sony a1 II

What is it?: The Sony a1 II is the slight upgrade to the original Sony a1. Honestly, if you own the original and are happy with it, you don’t need the upgrade except for the autofocus.
Why it’s so great: In our review, we praised the fact that Sony made the human autofocus detection much better in low light, especially with folks with deeper shades of melanin in their skin.
What Makes it Unique?: The Sony a1 series of cameras are basically absolute beasts while balancing out high megapixel count with insane autofocus capabilities.
Sony 50-150mm f2 G Master

What is it?: The Sony 50-150mm f2 G Master is a pretty unique lens. In some ways, No one really asked for it. But we’ll give it credit where it’s do in that it’s a solid portrait lens and event photography lens.
Why it’s so great: In our review, we really loved the image quality. Though at the same time, you can get the same thing from many other lenses on the market.
What Makes it Unique?: There’s truly nothing like this on the camera market.
Sony 400-800mm f6.3-8 G

What is it?: The Sony 400-800mm f6.3-8 is arguably one of the best lenses for wildlife and bird photography on the market. I’d even state that it’s the most useful one around.
Why it’s so great: In our review, we noted how much of a relative joy it is to use and how unique a focal length range it is. It’s excellent for birding.
What Makes it Unique?: There’s nothing else like this on the photography market.
Sony 28-70mm f2 G Master

What is it?: The 28-70mm f2 is a very useful lens for general photography and for those of us we really need a good zoom lens.
Why it’s so great: In our review, we stated that it’s much lighter in use than Canon’s option. But at the same time, we found the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 more useful.
What Makes it Unique?: This lens isn’t really unique. Canon did it first.
