The list showcases a preference for APS-C models bundled with zoom kits, which are perfect for entry-level users. Of the 20 cameras, 16 have APS-C sensors, with only one, the Z5 II being a full frame. There are also a few vlogging cameras, which make this even more interesting. Either way, it seems the double zoom list is are preferred lens configuration, which depicts that many users prefer flexibility. These people could be into travel or wildlife photography.
The Best-Selling Compact Cameras
BCN+R has also revealed the list of compact cameras, and it appears that Kodak has been the most sought-after device, followed by Panasonic. This is different considering the Kodak cameras are a basic point and shoot, over other models like the Canon G7X Mk II. Have a peak at the list:
- Kodak PIXPRO FZ55 Black
- Panasonic LUMIX TZ99 Black (DC-TZ99-K)
- Fujifilm instax mini Evo Black
- Kodak PIXPRO WPZ2
- Healthy Tokina Digital Camera KC-AF11 BK
- Kodak PIXPRO FZ45 Black
- Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II

- Kodak PIXPRO FZ45 Red
- Panasonic LUMIX TZ99 White (DC-TZ99-W)
- Ricoh Imaging PENTAX WG-1000 Gray
- Ricoh Imaging RICOH WG-90 Black
Kodak’s PixPro took five spots, showcasing how affordable travel cameras are, chosen by many. Second is Lumix’s TZ99 and FZ85D, which cater to long focal range fans. Interestingly, the Canon G7 X Mark II is the only large-sensor premium compact in the fixed-lens category, as it appears people choose affordability over larger megapixels.
From this list, one can see smaller sensor cameras and zoom lenses taking center stage, and that could be the case due to rebates, pricing, and selling strategy. It was surprising to not see Fujifilm’s other X series cameras such as the X100VI, which was quite popular on social media.
Either way, in a smartphone era, seeing smaller sensors become popular in Japan showcases that many buyers are looking for ways to mingle with photography again. A dedicated camera can help them get the best result, without having to spend a lot of money. If manufacturers get the small sensor recipe right, they will have a winner on their hands.
