This week is all about Zeiss. We already know the company is set to launch new lenses, and new rumors are coming in every day. However, we are here to share a new leak about Zeiss’ upcoming Otus lineup that has surfaced online. We are as excited as you are, but the whole segment is quite divided about the new launch. Without further ado, here are the leaked images and price of the new Zeiss Otus lineup.
According to Photo Rumors and Sony Alpha Rumors, the first image of the Zeiss Otus 50mm f/1.4 lens has been leaked online. Sony Alpha Rumors believes it is for the Canon RF mount. However, the pictures do not clearly indicate any such instance. Here is a screenshot from the video shared by Zeiss on X.

In addition, Zeiss also shared another post on X that showcases images of mountains, which has been shot using the “new” Zeiss lens.

That’s not all; Photo Rumor has also seen leaks of Zeiss’ lens prices on The Classic Camera. Per the website, the Zeiss Otus ML 50mm f1.4 will be for 2,100 pounds (about 2,648 USD), while the 85mm f/1.4 is worth 2,350 pounds (about 2,963 USD). However, these leaks were soon taken down.

When you compare the old Zeiss lens with the new one, despite the grainy pictures, you see the new lens is designed differently. For starters, it has a manual aperture ring with full-stop markings. In addition, it also includes a large focusing ring, as well as markings on the lens in metric measurement. There also seems to be a rubber on the ring, perpahps, they ar carrying forward certain part of their identity. However, it is difficult to make sure how small or huge the lens will appear on a mirrorless like Canon RF, Nikon Z or Sony E mounts.

There is a very slight, minimal possibility that the lens is smaller than usual. Why? It seems that the design has changed, which means the weight and length would also be impacted. But we could be wrong, too, as sometimes companies don’t really change.
As for the price, we are uncertain that Zeiss will have lenses that cost less than $3,000. That’s not what Otus is known for. And as we stated in an article before, based on our reviews, there are certain things that will certainly not change, and price factors into it. Unless the company had a change of heart after six years, which also seems unlikely. It remains to be seen what the company finally unveils, but the hope is that it will not be a rehashed version of the older lenses.
Considering how we need state-of-the-art lenses, Zeiss will be able to deliver that, especially when manufacturers forget to make lenses with a character. Maybe Sigma can try to be different after this because they are now catering to Canon RF mount. We may never know.
