The beginning of 2025 seems to be starting on an exciting note for DJI fans. As the launch of the DJI Mavic 4 is inching close, we witness some exciting reports about its features. Over the past few months, we have seen articles on what we will have in store, and now, there is another exciting update that creates a clearer picture. Let’s just say if you are into drone photography, you will certainly be surprised.
New Design
As part of its latest leaks, the new design is one of the most popular features. The DJI Mavic 4 is said to have a “tennis ball” shaped camera housing, which may confuse some. The drone looks very distinct in a photograph shared by Twitterati Igor Bogdanov (shared below). For instance, there is no way to attach an ND filter, which could be a challenge for many users as it is an important accessory. However, it is also said that the drone will have an in-built variable ND filter, which will reduce the challenge of changing filters in the middle of the flight. This is a crucial update for anyone who is dependent on filters. Furthermore, this change could also make the DJI Mavic 4 more unique to users.

Major Upgrades
In another Tweet by Jasper Ellens, DJI may take a major step ahead with their camera specification. People are talking about a potential 100MP image sensor, which will be a massive leap from the usual 20MP 4/3 sensor you find on the Mavic 3 Pro. In our review of the Mavic 3 Pro, we stated: “With its smaller sensor, the 70mm equivalent camera still produces a pretty clean image with accurate color. Image quality degrades the most on the 166mm equivalent lens, which isn’t quite as sharp and sometimes has a green tint. Because of the different sensor and aperture sizes involved, it’s important to remember to adjust the camera settings when shooting manually.”
In that sense, a 100MP 4/3 sensor may offer more detail, especially when zooming or cropping an image. In addition, there are also reports of 2x digital zoom with binning which will allow better low-light performance. So, if they manage to achieve this feat, we may get an industry-first device to have a major breakthrough. Other features include a 28mm lens, a wider aperture of f2, and a 14-stop dynamic range from dual-native ISO.
But let’s be honest there: 4/3 sensors haven’t been very satisfying for many of us who needed better high ISO output and better color details.
At this moment, the DJI Mavic 4 is expected to have a 99.5-watt-hour battery, which should allow it to fly for over 50 minutes. This change can make Mavoc 4 one of the best in line. There is also a rumored inclusion of a range of up to 40 km (25 miles). This will be one of the longest flying ranges available for a consumer drone. Occusync 4+, DJI’s latest transmission technology, is also included for better feeds.
Since the Mavic 3 Pro series was in the $2000 range, the newer version will be picked slightly higher, between $2,200 and $2,800. The DJI Mavic 4 is expected to be released in March or April.
DJI Mavic 4 Can Make Dreams Come True
On paper, the DJI Mavic 4 sounds like it will fulfill many drone photographers’ dreams. While we are unsure about the number of lenses or the zoom range, the sensor and the flight distance alone have excited many. However, we must take the rumors with a pinch of salt, as the releases may or may not include all the features. There can always be some challenge or technological issue that will prevent the company from pushing the boundary. Either way, DJI has certainly excited many, and if all these features are included, then DJI can simply raise the stakes much higher for competitors.
