Artistic collaborations, especially in photography, can be wonderfully fulfilling. Not only do they give the best of creation, but they also add a fun element in other features such as design and handling. A company that has always understood the advantages of such partnerships is Polaroid, having worked with organizations such as Lego and Pentone, as well as artists including Keith Haring, David Bowvie, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Adding to this diverse and quirky set of partnerships, the company has recently unveiled Polaroid Now Generation 2 – Eames Edition. There are no changes to the camera’s hardware, but the exterior features a distinct look. But before we get into that, here’s a short and incredible story behind this exciting affiliation.
How Did Polaroid Now Generation 2 – Eames Edition Occur?

Charles and Ray Eames, the 20th century’s most sought-after designers, have contributed to photography and other significant design areas such as architecture, furniture design, film, textiles, toys, and exhibitions. Interestingly, the Eames Office, founded by the duo, has been working with Polaroid to propel innovative frontiers and transform the creativeness of those around them. This collaboration with Polaroid has strived to streamline the medium for its aficionados.
One of the crucial aspects of Eames’ concepts included employing Polaroid’s instant photographs in displays and educational projects. During their 1972 communication campaign, the company showcased the SX-70 camera, Polaroid’s very first instant camera, created by Edwin Land, which has since cemented their relationship. The ease of use and the ability to instantly produce a print has made Polaroid such a legacy brand. Moreover, since its inception, the company has been instrumental not solely for photographers but also for artists, designers, and creatives worldwide to achieve their extraordinary vision. Polaroid has recently become extremely popular among the new generation who want to dabble with film photography.
“Charles and Ray’s holistic vision of design encompassed communication and education, which became evident in their masterful films for Polaroid,” says Eames Demetrios, Director of Eames Office. “In turn, the instant camera soon led to an expansion of their creative signature and became an important feedback tool in the design process. The Eames Office is delighted to build on this shared design legacy with the Polaroid Now – Eames Edition,” he adds.

A Look at The Inspiring Now Gen 2 – Eames Edition
The instant camera features Elephant Hide Gray’s skin and will be coupled with a wrist strap inspired by the iconic Eames Toy’s geometric pattern. I absolutely loved how the band stands out against the grey tone, which appears defiant as much as it looks playful and welcoming. The kaleidoscopic colors also help to bridge the gap between history and the present, as well as invention and legacy.
Other features include a self-timer, double exposure modes, and a 2-lens autofocusing system created using 40% recycled materials. Polaroid Now Generation 2 – Eames Edition is rechargeable via USB-C and compatible with Polaroid i-Type & 600 Fandlm.
Polaroid Now Generation 2 – Eames Edition is now available on Polaroid.com and select retailers worldwide.
