At the recent TIPA 2024 meeting, editors couldn’t even call the brand by its new name: OM System. Instead, we all just said Olympus. And if you walk into retailers, they barely ever call it OM System. Let’s be honest, we all felt it was an odd change. But today, the OM System formerly known as Olympus is now taking a page out of Price’s book and becoming the company formerly known as OM System. Yup, they’re going back to the name Olympus. They’re still not going to make a full-frame camera, though, but they’ve teased a brand new camera.
Olympus provided a pretty serious set of teaser images for a brand new coming. Apparently, they’ve finally looked at the success of the Fujifilm X100vi and decided that the time was right. The new concept camera looks a lot like a new Olympus Pen camera. However, what we’re not seeing is if there’s a viewfinder on the right side or not the way that the Pen F had. What’s very exciting though is that we get the old Olympus Pen logo — which I believe adds much more class to the product than the OM System logo.
It doesn’t look anything like the Olympus Trip camera that has long been requested, either. So this camera is bound to be an interchangeable lens option — which is also evident by the button lock on the side of the camera mount.
We think it’s a step in the right direction, but we’d still really like to see the company either fully embrace the luxury lifestyle that watches have evolved into with this new Olympus Pen if they’re not going to try to lean hard into the tech.
Editor’s Note: This is an April Fool’s Joke. Relax.
