If Skylum’s Luminar 4 is your preferred choice of software when it comes to image editing, you’ll be pleased to know that Skylum has dropped the first major update to their new editing software today. The Luminar 4.1 update adds a ton of new AI-enhanced features, and some performance boosts as well. Click past the break to see the details about the update for Luminar 4.
When it comes to image editing, we generally tend to think of Capture One and Lightroom. Still, Skylum has been making quite a name for themselves of late, and their latest offering, Luminar 4, took image editing in a new direction with the inclusion of some pretty radical AI enhancements. The AI tools included easy sky replacements, an easy to use erase tool, and portrait enhancement tools.
The new Luminar 4.1 update continues to build upon the features launched with the software just last month by adding a new feature called Atmospheric Haze. The atmospheric haze tool lets photographers add realistic looking haze to the skies in their images. When combined with the Sky Temperature and Sky Exposure sliders, it’s now possible to achieve a balanced image with a single tool.
The erase tool is now improved so that precise object removal is easier. Edges on the Erase tool are much softer, and the new algorithm means smarter selections for area replacement. The portrait enhancer can now work on images, including pictures with groups of people where faces appear smaller.
If you need to dial down your adjustments in small increments, the improved Adjustments Amount tool should help you achieve the look you want. You’ll find this new control works for all image and adjustment layers.
If you have Luminar 4 and you want to grab the update on a Mac, click in the top menu bar and choose Luminar 4 > Check for updates. On Windows, in the top menu bar, select Help > Check for updates. If you are running Luminar as a plugin with Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, or Photoshop Elements, it’s recommended you rerun the plugin installer.
