According to Hasselblad, the XCD 4/45P is the lightest digital Medium Format lens in the world.
If you’re the proud owner of a Hasselblad X1D or X1D II and you have been waiting for a small, lightweight lens that can be used while you’re out and about, your wait is over. Hasselblad has just announced that their new 45mm XCD 4/45P is not only super affordable but also claims that it is the lightest digital Medium Format lens (cue dramatic voice-over) ‘in the world!’ Join us after the break for all of the juicy information on this 45mm f4 lens.
According to the press release from Hasselblad, the XCD 4/45P has been designed to further the capabilities of all X System cameras. By creating the lens with portability in mind, the XCD 4/45P stands as the most lightweight and most compact member of the XCD lens family.

Weighing only 320g (0.7 lbs) and measuring 47mm (1.85 in) in-depth, the XCD 4/45P is the worldâs lightest digital Medium Format autofocus lens on the market today. This new glass will no doubt please Hasselblad owners who want a nice light lens to go on the hefty X1D II. Indeed, the light nature of this lens will probably make it a firm favorite with landscape photographers who need to hike to their destination, or for those who like to travel light in general.

Hasselblad also says that The XCD 4/45P features an optical design that incorporates two aspherical elements, which should result in excellent optical performance for a lens of this size. The XCD 4/45P also features an autofocus motor and leaf shutter that feature quieter performance as well, with Hasselblad claiming that photographers should find the XCD 45P leaf shutter quieter than many focal plane mechanical shutters.

The 4/45P has a minimum focus distance of 13.8-inches (35cm), and a maximum image scale of 1:5.2. The XCD 4/45P should also be quite good at photography genres such as food and still life photography. If you would like to get your hands on Hasselblads new lens, you can pick one up at the end of January for just $1,099, which is actually very reasonable for a Hasselblad lens. Keep in mind that this lens does not function on the original X1D 50c just yet, but a firmware update will be issued shortly so that the lens works flawlessly.
