Tamron gives Sony Full Frame mirrorless photographers a bunch of new options with their latest close-focusing, E-mount prime lenses.
Aside from expanding their award-winning line-up of zoom lenses for mirrorless cameras, Tamron recently announced three new prime lenses for Sony E-mount Full-Frame mirrorless cameras: 20mm f2.8 Di III OSD M1:2 (Model F05), 24mm f2.8 Di III OSD M1:2 (Model F051), and 35mm f2.8 Di III OSD M1:2 (Model F053). With these new offerings, Tamron presents the prime lens experience of shooting in 20mm ultra-wide-angle, 24mm general-purpose wide-angle, and versatile 35mm.
If you’re looking for a new wide-angle prime lens to pair with your Full-Frame Sony E-mount mirrorless camera, Tamron promises these new offerings make great accessible options. All three prime lenses have the same filter size as their two previously-launches zoom lenses (67mm) and can focus very close with a magnification ratio of 1:2. Photographers who brave the great outdoors can shoot with peace of mind knowing the lenses were built with moisture-resistant construction. Maintenance and removing fingerprints are also a breeze with the Fluorine Coating on the front element.
The new lenses are compact and lightweight, weighing in at 7.8 oz for the 20mm, 7.6 oz for the 24mm, and 7.4 oz for the 35mm — a total weight of under 1.5 pounds for all three! They are also the same length (2.5 inches), made possible by a design that allows the front element extension system to maintain the same exterior length when they are focused. This also lessens the chance of the extended front element accidentally touching a subject during close-ups.
The new Tamron primes feature enhanced close-focusing capabilities with the Minimum Object Distance (MOD) of 4.3 inches for the 20mm, 4.7 inches for the 24mm, and 5.9 inches for the 35mm. They also support various camera features found in some Sony models, such as Fast Hybrid AF, Eye AF, and Direct Manual Focus (DMF). Tamron developed silent autofocus for all three lenses through the Optimized Silent Drive (OSD) DC motor, which offers improved AF speed and performance while significantly reducing the drive noise.
