If you have been wanting a speedlite to elevate your smartphone photography, you should check out this LIT Xenon flash on KickStarter.
Do you use your smartphone for the majority of your photography, or maybe even use just in a pinch? If so, chances are you have probably wished you could have access to a better flash than the LED that sits on the back of your phone. The guys and gals over at LIT have wanted better mobile photography lighting solutions as well which is why they have come up with a Bluetooth Xenon Flash that is as powerful as a regular speedlite, and that can do High Speed Sync and a whole lot more. Join us after the break for more details.
The Lit Xenon Flash, which has a campaign on KickStarter, is a powerful Bluetooth enabled speedlite that will be able to bring the wonders of using flash to mobile photography. The LIT Xenon Flash is small enough to fit in your back pocket, but is powerful enough to use in some pretty harsh conditions. This small rechargeable speedlite is also capable of High Speed Sync at 1/10000 of a second which is pretty impressive.
A quick look at the specs show that this Xenon flash will pack quite a punch, and should give anyone who likes to dabble in mobile photography the chance to capture some pretty cool images via their phone. The Lit Xenon Flash has an output of 40ws at full power at guide number 32. That means that this flash is almost as powerful as a flash like the Godox Thinklite TT350.
The flash has power settings from 1/1 to 1/256, and the flash duration ranges from 1/35 to 1/30,000 of a second. There are a few modes for photographers to choose from (TTL, Creative Modes, High Speed Sync, and full manual), and the Lit Xenon Flash has recycle times from 0.1 to 2.5 seconds. The flash is powered by a 2800mAh battery which charges via USB-C, and is capable of firing off 200 times at full power from a single charge. There is also a magnetic bayonet around the flash head that will accept accessories such as color gels as they get released later down the line.
The flash even has a remote shutter release built in so you can set the phone down and walk around with just the flash in your hand. These are pretty impressive specs for a flash that’s designed for mobile photography.
The flash is controlled via a camera app that you download to your phone. Currently the LIT Xenon Flash is only available for iPhone users, but they are working hard to bring the flash to Android as well. You do have to use the LIT Xenon Flash camera app in order for the phone to communicate with the flash, but as you can see in the video below, the app functions identically to the camera app that comes as standard on your smartphone.

LIT aim to raise $50,000 from their Kickstarter campaign, and of course, if you make a pledge for the product you will be able to get one at a significantly reduced price. At retail the LIT Xenon Flash will cost $329, but early birds can get in on the action for $179, and then $199. If you miss out on the early bird deals the price jumps to $249 which would represent a savings of $80 off of the $329 retail price.
