If you’re looking for a fast prime Leica SL lens to slap on your L-Mount Camera, your search might be over.
We all love prime lenses, and today Leica SL, and L Mount Alliance camera users should rejoice. Leica Cameras have just announced that a new fast prime will be joining their family; the APO-Summicron-SL 35mm f2 ASPH. This high performance lens may have a long name, but it’s short, wide focal length will make it popular with street, environmental portrait photographers, and documentarians everywhere.
The Leica APO-Summicron-SL 35mm f2 ASPH is being billed as a lens that will set a new benchmark for lenses of this focal length. Leica are known for producing lenses that offer incredible image quality, and with the APO-Summicron-SL 35mm f2 ASPH featuring optimized optics, mechanics, and high quality coatings on each lens surface, things should be no different with this offering.
The Leica SL lens should also be highly durable thanks to the dust and moisture sealing. The sealing will also be joined by hydrophobic Aquadura coatings which have been applied to all exterior surfaces of the lens. This means you should be able to take this lens out into harsh environments with no problems.
The Leica APO-Summicron-SL 35mm f2 ASPH will employ fast, powerful, and durable DSD (Dual Syncro Drive) stepping motors. The dual motors will allow focusing to be achieved in just 250 milliseconds.
As you would expect, this new lens conforms to the new L mount standard. The lens will be compatible with L mount cameras like the Panasonic S1, and all other cameras that have been developed with manufacturers in the L-Mount Alliance. The APO-Summicron-SL 35mm f2 ASPH will be available for purchase directly from Leica, and from select boutiques, and dealers this coming April. The lens will have a price tag of $4,595. Better start saving those pennies if you want to pick one up come April 2019.
