If you’ve been wondering how the Hasselblad XCD 80mm f1.9 performs in actual shoots, this quick video is worth a watch.
In case you missed it, Hasselblad introduced last month three new additions to the XCD lens family, one of them the XCD 80mm f1.9, pegged as the company’s fastest lens ever. That, of course, also means that the mind-blowing wide aperture brings the bokeh-licious aesthetic to the X1D-50c, along with increased light-gathering ability. If you’re toying with the idea of grabbing this lens for your mirrorless medium format camera, you’re surely curious about how it performs during an actual shoot. We got just the right video for you to check out.
Faruk of the iPhonedo YouTube channel recently took the XCD 80mm lens out for a spin and make a quick video to introduce it to us and show us some of the photos he took with it. And wow, they are bokeh-licious indeed.
If bubbly, creamy bokeh is part of your creative photography arsenal, looks like this lens will do the job for you — especially for shooting portrait. The amazing photos, demonstrates how, as Faruk mentioned, is perfect for low light photography and dramatic lighting. Of course, it’s great “for all your bokeh needs” as well.
Out of curiosity, he actually also shot part of the video with the lens, just to see how it will perform. The footage does show the gorgeous bokeh and great low light performance we’ve seen in the photos. However, it also affirms what some of you might be thinking — it’s admittedly not the best for video work and not what the lens was built for.
The XCD 80mm f1.9, along with the other new lenses, is now available for pre-order on the Hasselblad website. Shipping is scheduled for December 2018.
