Schneider Kreuznach is set to present several improvements to their B+W Filters at the Photokina 2018.
If you’re already excited about checking out the manufacturers’ booths for the upcoming Photokina on September 26 – 29 in Cologne, you might want to add Schneider Kreuznach on your list. The German optics company is set to bring some improvements to their B+W Filters and related accessories. These include new packaging design, a B+W ND Calculator App, innovative surface coating for filter mounts, and new B+W square filters. Landscape photographers in particular may be interested in checking these out.
New packaging design for B+W filters
The company envisions both retailers and end consumers benefiting from the new packaging design for the B+W Filters, which has been simplified into three basic cartons. The new front labels have been color-coded and contain a quick overview of the essential product information for the various filter types. To ensure that consumers only get authentic products, the B+W cardboard box also now comes with a new security hologram with the recognizable Schneider hologram with several hidden security features.
B+W ND Calculator App
Poised as an essential exposure calculator for landscape photographers, the new “B+W ND-Calc” is available for both Android and iOS through the Google Play Store and App Store. Turning the outer ring on the display allows the exposure time measured without a filter to be transferred. The density of the grey filter used (ND value) is set afterwards, and the correct exposure time is determined. It also includes a timer for monitoring the exposure time after 4 seconds by pressing the inner ring (Bulb camera setting).
New manufacturing process for B+W filter mount surface coating
An innovative paint finish will replace the black chrome plating for B+W Filter mounts, in order to improve the gliding properties and make screwing the filter in and out easier. This also prevents surface abrasion, which was unavoidable in the previous production process.
New B+W polarizing film and square filters
The new B+W polarizing film produces vivid color effects when placed in front of a light source and paired with a polarizing filter on the camera. It can be positioned in front of flash units, LED photo lamps, repro lamps, and flash systems (only for a limited extent because of heat) using an adhesive strip, rubber band, or clamp. The flexible, color-neutral, and homogenous film is available in thicknesses of 0.3 or 0.8 mm and can be cut to size or punched without issues.
The B+W Filters line will also have a new square filter for 100 x 100 x 2 mm filter holder systems. This model features a special coating to allow exceptionally high density for longer exposure times. It promises to maintain full contrast and sharpness even with professional high-resolution camera systems.
Other notable B+W innovations expected to be introduced during the Photokina 2018 include new counter display, new professional microfiber cleaning cloth, and the B_W Photo Clear cleaning cloth in different colors.
