The Samyang 35mm f2.8 Lens Has Autofocus, Promises to Be Small

Samyang hasn’t really been known for their autofocus lenses, but as of late they’ve been creating options like the Samyang 35mm f2.8. This lens is being targeted at the full frame Sony mirrorless camera user since it’s full designation is the AF 35mm f2.8 FE. The lens features seven elements in six groups, two aspherical lenses, one high refractive lens plus Ultra Multi Coating. They’re touting it being able to deliver a lot of resolution all throughout the frame. If you do the translation from Euro to American, the price is around $336.00. With that said, it doesn’t sport the weather sealing of the Sony 35mm f2.8 FE.

Samyang Introduces Third Autofocus Lens – AF 35mm F2.8 FE

June 5th, 2017, Seoul, Korea – Global optics brand, Samyang Optics is pleased to announce the release of Samyang’s third autofocus lens: AF 35mm F2.8 FE. A tiny lens with a mighty performance, it is ideal for daily photography as well as travel photography. This new compact and lightweight lens, together with the existing AF 14mm F2.8 FE and AF 50mm F1.4 FE lenses, now expands Samyang’s autofocus lens line-up to three.

Tiny but Mighty

The AF 35mm F2.8 FE weighs just 85g and measures 3.3cm in length, without the hood and rear cap. Thanks to Samyang’s exceptional optical technology, its compact size is packed with features for outstanding image quality. Featuring seven elements in six groups, two aspherical lenses and one high refractive lens plus Ultra Multi Coating to minimise aberration and unnecessary light dispersion, the lens delivers high resolution from the centre to the corners of the image.

Perfect Partner for Everyday Photographers

This new lens is specifically designed to work in harmony with full frame mirrorless cameras in Sony E mount. For full frame sensors (Sony a7, Sony a7 II, Sony a7s, Sony a7s II, Sony a7r, Sony a7r II, Sony a9), the focal length resembles the human eye the most. For APS-C types for Sony alpha 6000 and 5000 series users the lens is equivalent to approximately 52mm, which is also one of the most popular focal lengths among photographers.

Portability with mighty performance and a 35mm focal length makes this lens the best choice for daily photographers who want to capture every memory as a high quality image. The autofocus is fast and accurate and is ideal for the capture of outdoor events such as hiking, sports events and landscape photography. It also has a minimum focusing distance of 0.35m and is ideal for street, portrait and close focus photography.

Available from July 2017

This tiny but mighty Samyang AF 35mm F2.8 FE lens will be available globally from July, and will carry a suggested retail price is EUR 299.

Today, for some odd reason, the Nikon P1000 point and shoot camera is being announced. Odd, you ask? The fact that it is a point and shoot isn’t such a big issue at all; but the fact that it’s a superzoom camera being marketed as one with a 125x optical zoom is what’s insane. Kudos to Nikon for being able to do something like this; but then you read the fine print (or in this case, print that’s not even in the press release) and see the bait and switch–this Nikkor lens is having its potential wasted by being placed in front of a 1/2.3 inch sensor.

The Fujifilm XT3 (or as they call it, the Fujifilm X-T3) is the company’s latest evolution to their SLR style camera body designed to be a workhorse for many photographers. Despite a whole lot of great and absolutely fantastic things built into the camera, I personally am wondering what Fujifilm’s goal is here with the idea of the X Trans sensor and Film Simulations. One of the reasons why I was so smitten with the X Pro 1 was the fact that it delivered images that really looked like well shot and developed film. To some extent, the Fujifilm XT2 did too but only really with Acros. With the latest iteration, the Fujifilm X-T3, the company is delivering a new 26.2MP X Trans Sensor that delivers the most beautiful colors of any APS-C sensor that we’ve seen. But at the same time, the film simulations just don’t feel right.
