Three Kits: Canon Wedding Photography

It’s a new year and that means it is also downtime for many wedding photographers in this part of the world. A lot of you are Canon shooters and may be thinking about upgrading or reinvesting some of the past season’s income on some new gear. Today, just as we did with Fujifilm and Sony, we will take a look at a few kits that we feel are perfect for the various types of Canon wedding photographer.

Kit 1: The Prime Enthusiast

In wedding photography, as with every other photographic niche, there are those who prefer shooting with prime lenses and those who prefer shooting with zooms. Our first kit is for you prime shooting enthusiasts, and Canon has some absolutely legendary L series lenses that you should be drooling over – as well as some killer third party options to consider…

The Camera: Canon 5D Mark IV

This should come as a surprise to no one, but Canon’s latest workhorse DSLR is a great option for Canon shooter’s looking to upgrade their wedding kit. It offers an improvement over the 5D Mark III in almost every way. It may not have been a revolutionary camera, but it is still a great option and a really solid performer for a wedding photographer. Kit 2: The Zoom Freak

If you aren’t all that into primes and prefer to just have a couple of lenses on you to handle a variety of situations then we have some great suggestions for you as well. There are some crazy good zoom lens options available for the Canon system, so here is our pick for a zoom kit.

The Camera: Canon 5D Mark IV

I am not going to rehash this pick, the 5D is a solid camera for this entire genre. You could go with a 6D as a cheaper alternative, but that is starting to show its age. You could also upgrade to a 1D X Mark II if you want a killer wrist workout every day. (Buy on Amazon, here)

Kit 3: The All Arounder

Okay, this is the kit that most of you will be more interested in, a kit containing both zooms and primes, basically what we would consider to be some of the best all around Canon wedding kit currently. That is to say, this is an incredible kit for any form of photography, but particularly from the wedding perspective this kit has it all.

The Camera: Canon 5D Mark IV

Canon’s 5D Mark IV is really our pick for all of these kits. However, if you are looking for some more resolution, the Canon 5DSr is also a killer option if you want to keep that 5D body feel but want to up the resolution. (Buy on Amazon, here)

The Lenses

The hard part about trying to come up with these kits for the Canon system is that there really are so many options out there in terms of lenses, there are a TON of great alternatives that could be switched out for any one of these lenses. That said, we feel like we have put together three really solid kits that should be attainable to any wedding photographer looking to upgrade.
