Real innovation in the photo and video world is rare these days. We see a lot of minor and major improvements on the same old ideas, but it’s rarely that something really revolutionary new appears. Well, it seems one of these rare moments has arrived. Welcome the bublcam, a clever new 360° video and stills camera that is currently being financed via Kickstarter.
The bublcam uses a tetrahedal array of four lenses each recording a 190° view. Behind each lens sits a 5 megapixel sensor, and the camera outputs either multiplex images/video, or stitches the data together into a cohesive 360° view. For storage, the bublcam uses micro SD cards up to 32 GB. Alternatively, its output can be streamed via USB 2.0 or Wi-Fi.
The bublcam Kickstarter campaign is currently at roughly US-$ 135k of its initial $100k goal, with another 37 days to go. While all the super early adopter packages have sold out already, there are still some slots left that will get you the bublcam at a considerably lower price than the final retail version will sell for.
