Today, we need to apologize if this posting has caused you to lose faith in humanity. However, it’s just too ridiculous not to share. A number of Apple ads were photoshopped to look extremely authentic and fooled some less tech-savvy folks into thinking that updating to iOS 7 would make the devices waterproof. Specifically, The faux ads claim that updating devices with the operating system installs a “smart switch” that cuts off the phone’s power supply when water is detected.
According to Sky News and loads of other sources, many folks fell for it due to the authenticity of the look to the ads. CNet states that many tweeted it in full belief.
Reddit claims that the posts (and yes there are a number of them) came from 4Chan. And it’s a very strong possibility.
For the record, updating an OS will not do this. So don’t be that guy.
