Epson’s V-series flatbed photo scanners have always been well-received, with the high-end V700 model enjoying great popularity amateurs, enthusiasts and professionals alike. Now the company has introduced a new medium-level device, which not only promises great quality scans of print and film pictures alike, but also sports built-in social media features. The V550, which replaces the V500, sports 6,400 dpi optical resolution, Digital ICE technology to automatically repair damaged film by removing dust, imperfections, scratches and fingerprints, as well as scanning directly to cloud storage and photo sharing websites. Thanks to its backlighting unit it is able to scan film in various sizes ranging from 35mm to medium format. The V550’s suggested retail price in the UK is GBP 179.99, according to ePhotoZine. We have no official information on a US release date and price tag yet.
