See that little guy up above? That is a brand new species of mammal discovered in South America. The discovery was announced today by Smithsonian Zoologists, and its name is the olinguito. It is a member of the raccoon family and is noted to look like a cross between a cat and a teddy bear. It has big eyes, lots of fur and weighs approximately two pounds. Its diet consists of small creatures as it is a carnivore.
According to USA Today, they first spotted the animals is 2006 and weren’t sure what it was until now.
The BBC and Huffington Post have even more. But the discovery is incredible, and Mark Gurney, the photographer who shot it, must feel really excited right now.
