When Dog Schidt lenses first came out, we got quite a laugh out of their name. But for what it is worth, they simply can’t fill all of the back orders for their lenses so far–they just keep getting so many. What they’re doing is taking the elements from vintage Russian and German glass and rehousing them with modifications for different effects. And these effects are very desirable for their video crowd.
The company is now working on a cinema version of their TRUMP FF58mm lens–and it will have interchangeable apertures with different shapes for different effects. Sound familiar? Those of you who remember the movie Scott Pilgrim Vs the World know that heart shaped bokeh was created during one scene as a creative effect. And while Schidt’s apertures won’t be as extreme, they’ll still be quite nice to work with creatively.
You’ve got loads of options according to this PDF, but they’re creating it primarily for Canon EF, Nikon F, and PL mounts. A sample film is after the jump. It kind of bums me out that there is no Sony NEX or Micro Four Thirds version as far as I can see.
