Nikon’s Worst Kept Secret Finally Becomes Official: D3200 and 28mm f1.8 Announced

According to Nikon Rumors, Nikon Switzerland and Japan leaked the units. But it is all true though, so here is a quick spec rundown without being weighed down by the press releases.

Editor’s Note: B&H Photo already has the D3200, the WU_1 WiFi accessory, and 28mm f1.8 listed on their website and available for pre-order.

– ISO range is native to 100- 6400 but expandable to 12,800

– 1080p HD video 30, 25 or 24fps, and 720p video at 60, 50, 30 or 25fps.

– Wi-Fi connection with the optional WU-1a wireless mobile adapter that lets you transmit your images to your smartphone. (Eye-fi cards already do this very well.)

Today, for some odd reason, the Nikon P1000 point and shoot camera is being announced. Odd, you ask? The fact that it is a point and shoot isn’t such a big issue at all; but the fact that it’s a superzoom camera being marketed as one with a 125x optical zoom is what’s insane. Kudos to Nikon for being able to do something like this; but then you read the fine print (or in this case, print that’s not even in the press release) and see the bait and switch–this Nikkor lens is having its potential wasted by being placed in front of a 1/2.3 inch sensor.
