The new Nikon 85mm f1.8 is currently in my hands and undergoing quite a thorough review right now. The other day, I played around with it on my D5100. Here are a couple of quick image samples. The full review and other tests are coming, so stay tuned!

Also used was the OCF Gear TTL cord and the Yongnuo YN-560 II.

All images in this post were subject to minor sharpening and clarity boosts of a couple of levels to simulate real-world use.

Once again, please keep in mind that this is an informal test. With that said, notice the color fringing wide open that doesn’t go away until around f4.

Today, for some odd reason, the Nikon P1000 point and shoot camera is being announced. Odd, you ask? The fact that it is a point and shoot isn’t such a big issue at all; but the fact that it’s a superzoom camera being marketed as one with a 125x optical zoom is what’s insane. Kudos to Nikon for being able to do something like this; but then you read the fine print (or in this case, print that’s not even in the press release) and see the bait and switch–this Nikkor lens is having its potential wasted by being placed in front of a 1/2.3 inch sensor.
