Hungry? Feast Your Eyes On This Studio Photo Sample From the Olympus EPL5

by Chris Gampat on 11/27/2012

We’re in the middle of testing out the Olympus E-PL5 and decided that since the sensor doesn’t have an Anti-Aliasing filter, the output should be super sharp, yes? Well to put that to the test, we slapped on the Voigtlander 17.5mm f0.95, and hooked our PocketWizard Plus IIIs up to the Einstein E640. Then we bounced the light off of a wall. The lens was set to F11 and no post-production was done to this photo except for a bit of resizing for the web. This was shot at ISO 200.

What do you think?

Seems quite sharp. If I’m not mistaken, f/11 is well past the diffraction limit for the m4/3 sensor. What does would this image look like at f/5.6?

I think there is no point using a m4/3 lens at F11, because there is visible diffraction even at F8.

lol, i think that its overexposed and you need a camera with better DR (k-5II?). Tack sharp though :D

    that cheese…

the E-PL5 has the same AA filter as the OM-D E-M5. Olympus USA got it wrong …

Some good Points have been raised: I think this deserves a re-test that is at a larger aperture, that is properly exposed, and with the right AA filter info. Thanks
