The RadioPopper PX System is Now Compatible with the Canon 1D X

RadioPopper has just released a firmware update for their PX system, making it compatible not only to Canon’s flagship DSLR, the 1D X, but also to the Nissin Di866 Mark II speedlight in both the Canon and Nikon version. Only the Canon version of the Di866 II can be used with both transmitters and receivers, though, and can act as both master or remote device. I think we can all agree that Pocket Wizards are the most popular wireless flash triggering system on the market today. I think we all can also agree that they are the most expensive wireless flash triggering system on the market today. Lucky for all of us non-millionaires, many companies have rose up to challenge Pocket Wizard for people’s business in this arena.

One of those companies is Phottix with their hot shoe wireless flash system they’ve dubbed the Strato II. In this post we’ll take a look at how well these perform and whether they are a viable alternative to the more expensive, yet proven Pocket Wizard.

An Introduction To Canon’s Wireless Flash System

Wireless flash control is perhaps one of the biggest upgrades that your photography can take as it allows you to control the light nearly anywhere you so choose to go. There are photographers out there that oftentimes say that they choose not to use flash at all because it disturbs their subjects. While this can be true, the argument can be made that you’d much rather get a good photo of them—in which wireless flash can help tremendously. When used correctly, it will also not tamper with the wonderful colors that your camera’s sensor is capable of capturing.
