Ken Kiefer Photographs Models Underwater With 40-50 Sharks

“I was very motivated to bring awareness to more people about sharks and their true behavior, ” says photographer Ken Kiefer to us about his recent project involving photographing models alongside sharks. “I spend a lot of time speaking to people about sharks, and it’s hard for most people to understand the level to which things are blown out of proportion.” Ken has been interviewed and featured many times on this website for his unique creative vision and working underwater.

“Dogs bite thousands of people per year, but reporting on a dog bite doesn’t bring the (same) level of attention that hearing of a shark bite. The media does everything they can to enhance this feeling of danger and the fear surrounding sharks, and facts are generally completely ignored.”

When it comes to underwater portraiture, one of the best photographers out there has to be Ken Kiefer. Ken has loads of experience and like many of us, he also still has a big fascination with comic books and heroes. Ken Kiefer on Photographing Big, Scary Creatures Underwater

When it comes photographing underwater, it goes without saying that Ken Kiefer is an expert. He’s well know for his underwater fashion photography–which we previously profiled him for. But what Ken isn’t telling us is that he’s also a certified badass. You see, Ken has loved sharks since he was five years old, and he’s also had a lifelong love of photography. He’ll be photographing gorgeous models underwater one minute and then warming up to some of the most dangerous predators in the sea the next.

Ken Kiefer: Underwater Fashion Photography

Photographer Ken Kiefer has an incredible speciality as a creative: not only is he an underwater photographer or a fashion photographer, but he specializes in underwater fashion photography. In fact, he’s won a number of awards for his work. Ken tells us that a few looks can take up to three hours and that the work is so complex due to lighting scenarios and getting exactly what he needs from the talent.
