One of the first things we learn when we’re photographing people is to make sure their eyes are in focus. Italian contemporary street photographer Salvatore Matarazzo often takes this fundamental portrait photography lesson to his bold work. In his most recent series, he especially dedicated a collection to some of the eyes he met while out in the streets. Not quite like the posed street portraits usually see or think about, these photos are quirky close-ups that introduce us to the subjects that caught our featured photographers’ eyes.
Who needs a holiday when you have one of the best jobs in the world? Whatever type and style of photography that you do, you can’t deny that working as a photographer is an unbelievable experience with its ups and downs like every other job but, unlike any other job, most of us choose to become a photographer and be it for the lifestyle of a fashion photographer, the experiences of a photojournalist, or the flavours of a food photographer, we chose to get into our niche because we love what we do. Who would ever want to have a break from that?
Senior portrait season is in full swing in the USA. Senior portraits (for those unfamiliar with them) are portraits of students who will be graduating from high school. This is a time honored tradition in the United States, and it really is an important milestone for students. The Senior Portrait season brings about a lot of work for photographers, and it’s often the first place that new photographers will start doing work for pay. As with any genre of photography, having the right lens is critical. In this article we’ll take a look at 6 affordable portrait lenses that are perfect for senior portrait photography.
Summer vacations are always fun and being able to take pictures in the pool can help make those memories last a lifetime. Fujifilm underwater cameras have been go to cameras for many people from vacationers, to photographers who are looking to get a little creative with their work. They have always been affordable, and reliable, but this March they will be discontinued. Read on after the break to find out more.
Attention, film photographers! If you’re planning to shoot a body of work entirely on film or already have an ongoing project, now would be a great time to get it going. One of the biggest things that I’m personally so excited about with the new Panasonic S1 and Panasonic S1R is the innovation brought to a full frame camera with shutter speeds and flash sync. Panasonic redesigned the entire shutter mechanism and gave it this ability–which is a first for mirrorless full frame cameras. Portrait and event photographers along with photojournalists and wedding photographers will greatly value this new boost to what they were already doing. While much of the photography world tries to put an emphasis on natural light and excessive Lightroom/Photoshop production, I feel like this helps put power back into the hands of true photographers and not editors.

I’ve been a very big fan of WANDRD for a number of years now–with my only complaint being their divider system, I never thought that they’d come out with a product like the WANDRD VEER18L. When meeting with them briefly at Photokina 2018, I was told that a divider system that was inflatable will be coming; and that’s one of the most innovative things about the WANDRD VEER18L. But the rest of the bag and how it interacts with this new system I genuinely believe to be one of the biggest mistakes the company has made. As a company that I considered to be a more ethical option to Peak Design, I have to express my utter heartbreak and loss of faith in this product.
