Don’t count Samsung out of the camera/photography game just yet: today the company announced their latest entry into the NX series of cameras. It’s called the Samsung NXs–with the “s” moniker alluding to selfie sticks.
Despite the fact that a kitten dies every time that you use one, even I need to admit that the Samsung NXs is bound to appeal to the people who want DSLR (or mirrorless camera) quality with the ease of use that the Selfie Stick allows.
The Samsung NXs houses a 20.1 MP APS-C sensor and comes standard with the 16mm f2.4 pancake lens. To make capturing selfies even easier, the camera has a brand new face detection mode that detects up to 12 faces in a scene at a time. Samsung gave this sensor output a high ISO output up to 12,800: which they claim will be virtually noise free when shooting selfies. Combine this with the new strategic partnership with SnapChat to include their filters, and you’ll get lots of cool new stuff to mess around with.
To send the images to the web, the Samsung NXs incorporates NFC and WiFi: so when you shoot you can immediately send the image right to your phone using the Samsung NX selfie app. There, you can port your images to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and more.
Want one? Well, don’t expect them to be cheap considering that only Samsung is doing something like this. When it hits the retailers next month, it’ll cost all of your self respect.
To kick off the next wave of selfie shooting, Samsung is also announcing a new event which will begin in New York’s Times Square called #DitchTheSelfieStick. Here, you’ll get to trade in your old selfie stick for a brand new Samsung NXs totally free of charge. More details to come on that event soon.
