The camera with a phone in it, otherwise known as the Nokia Lumia 1020, has received a major update very recently. The camera can now shoot RAW images in what’s called the Black Booster update. Specifically, the camera can now shoot DNG raw files–which is Adobe’s native format for RAWs and that is supported by other companies like Pentax, Leica and some others in the medium format world. What that effectively means is that this phone will give you 41MP still RAW images.
We’ll just let that soak in for a second. In fact, it’s a heck of a camera. DxOMark thinks so too.
Granted, the sensor can’t touch the dynamic range, low light abilities and color depth of other dedicated cameras but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be used for professional work. Some photographers have shot weddings and documentary work with it already.
