RAW files are the go-to option if you want complete control of your image in post, but they have been mostly missing from the smartphone space. Nokia introduced raw files with the Lumia 1020 and 1520, but elsewhere, RAW files have yet to make an appearance. According to a report on Engadget, an app developer discovered some code that shows that work is being done to develop a camera API that would allow Android devices to store RAW files. Another portion of the code seems to imply that there may be support for modular camera devices (think Sony QX10/100), but the wording’s too vague to come to a precise conclusion. RAW support could give Android the boost it needs. Moreover, mobile photography will greatly improve with broader RAW support.
