This Four Thirds Sensor Can Shoot 4K Video

There have been rumors about it for a while now, and it’s only logical that this move comes now or never–especially with Sony offering automatic features on their 4K cams. According to a report on 43Rumors, the ex-Kodak company TrueSense has developed one heck of a sensor. It is a Four Thirds sensor developed to shoot 4K video. TrueSense makes the sensor for the Digital Bolex.

According to EOSHD, the specs are:

These are the specs:
– 18.8mm x 14.1mm in size for a 4/3″ optical format
– global shutter for stills and a rolling shutter for video.
– 10bit 4K video at up to 120fps.
– Dynamic range is 72 db (11 stops) in rolling shutter mode but this drops to just 55 db in global shutter mode.

Now, 10bit video isn’t so great, but if it shoots RAW then it might be a bit more workable with a good video editor, exceptional colorist and one heck of a color calibrated monitor. We don’t think that Panasonic or Olympus will use this sensor, but we’re very curious as to who might. Maybe there will be an affordable 4K camcorder coming out soon from some other brand.
