The APS-C market has seen some shift. While full frame cameras continue to reign, in more recent years, with the rising prices, APS-C models are finding their footing again. Sure, people need extra megapixels, but with the right lens, an APS-C camera can do wonders. Canon has created some exemplary models that have been overshadowed by full-frame siblings, and today, we pay homage to one such model.
Exceptional Autofocus

The autofocus system on the device is amazing. It is accurate and speedy, and when paired with L lenses, you get a camera that performs well. For tracking, we got better results with AF-on, vehicle detection is great, and “it even holds focus on people when it loses track of the subject.” In low light, it gets most shots right, but in bright light, it is unstoppable. The R7 is one of the better APS-C models for autofocusing. The only thing holding it back is the low-end lenses. If you are working with Canon lenses such as the 100-500mm f4.5-7.1, the 24-105mm f4, and the 50mm f1.2, it is better to turn off scene detection.
A Rugged Camera

A flagship in its own right, the R7 is like the full frame cameras when it comes to design. The shutter comes down to protect the sensor, and one can get RF lenses mounted as well. The camera can withstand rain, as seen in the lead cover image, and that showcases how well-built the device is. The camera could withstand dirt, especially when shut off. The camera feels durable in hand, has a nice dial around the joystick, and the layout feels great in your hands.
Image Quality Worth Praising

The R7 is a great camera and a capable APS-C model. The JPEG offers nice, vibrant colors. If your settings are right, you don’t need to shoot in RAW either. The final image is easy to share, especially on social media. “When I showed photos at ISO 12,800 to friends who have been shooting longer than I have, they were floored by the results,” we explained in our review. The RAW files also allow for good, and ISO at 6400, “it’s also one of the most detailed I’ve seen.”
Overall, the camera is great for creating shoots, and with its multiple exposure modes, you can achieve some amazing results. At just $1500, it is an ideal option for sports and photojournalists.
