Lots of camera roundups like to give you somewhere between three to five options to choose from. And while they’re not wrong, they’re not always coming from experts who’ve actually used said cameras. Luckily, as the founder of The Phoblographer, I can say with certainty that we’ve tested the two cameras I’m about to tell you about. In fact, all the images in this article were shot by me. These two are the best film point and shoot cameras that you can get on the market. Truly, forget the rest: they’ll probably be way too expensive and they’re bound to disappoint you in some way or another. These two are the GOATs in so many ways.
Hexar AF: Best Film Point and Shoot for Experienced Photographers:

- Why the Hexar AF is Great: The Hexar AF is in many ways, one of the best point and shoot cameras if you want to shoot silently. This is great for street photography, events where you need a quieter camera but can’t afford a Leica, and any situation where you just want quiet. There’s also manual controls, and a 35mm f2 autofocus lens on the front of the camera.
- Who is it for?: The Hexar AF is best for street photographers, party photographers, and anyone that cares a lot about image quality. It’s for more experienced shooters
- What’s so special about it that makes it unique?: The one thing that’s super unique about the Hexar AF is the silent film advance mode. When you shoot, it can slowly and pretty quietly advance the film. If you have really solid hearing, then you’ll be able to pick up the sound. But most people won’t be able to do it.
- Favorite Film to Use with it: Kodak Tri-X
In our review, we stated that:
There isn’t honestly a single thing that I hate about the Hexar AF. There are problems that some may find to be hindering to their photography, but for the most part they’ll adapt. The camera is well built, small, silent, lightweight, and gives you everything you need to take a good image in a compact package.

Fujifilm Natura S: Great for Beginners

- Why the Fujifilm Natura S is Great: The Natura S is a small, lightweight, fun camera that is easy to learn. And if you’re an experienced photographer, it’s one that you’re not going to take seriously. Instead, it rewards you just being in the moment. To this day, it is still my favorite film point and shoot camera and the one I kept around.
- Who is it for?: This great will be great in the hands of beginners. However, photographers that are more experienced and that know how to use its different light metering settings will also really enjoy using it. It also has autofocus.
- What’s so special about it that makes it unique?: The thing that makes the Natura S so awesome is the 24mm f1.9 lens on the front that’s super small. It’s also very sharp. What’s more, if you load 1600 ISO film into here, it will automatically set itself to a special mode where the flash is bound to never be used. That’s because it was originally designed to be used with Fujifilm Natura 1600 film.
- Favorite Film to Use with It: CineStill 800D
In our review, we stated that:
I’m absolutely in love with the Fujifilm Natura S. It’s small, lightweight, inconspicuous, can deliver great images, and will give you more keeper shots on a roll than you’ve probably gotten before. With a 24mm f1.9 lens attached and automatic modes that you can actually trust, there is nothing to complain about here.
