Photography brands are aplenty. From those who design cameras to others working with accessories, each manufacturer brand brings something new or cost-effective to the table. With so many options today, it becomes challenging to choose one, especially if you are new to the industry. For this reason, Japanese publications such as BCN have been working to reveal statistics of which photo brands have better sales than others. This time, they have unveiled the best-selling manufacturers of the first half of 2025. The results may not surprise you.
First reported by Digi Camera Info, BCN announced the list of its BCN Awards 2026, which are based on the rankings the company does every other month. On July 17, they compiled the sales data of the photography gear that was sold from January to June 2025, with the biggest sellers being ranked by them. The awards had 105 categories, including cellphones and scanners. However, we are showcasing that focus on the photo industry, and it appears that Canon is doing much better than other companies:
- DSLR Cameras: Canon – 46.8%
- Action Cameras: DJI – 35.3%
- Mirrorless Cameras: Sony – 30.4%
- Interchangeable Lenses: Tamron – 21.8%
- Fixed Lens Digital Cameras: Kodak – 21.7%

As revealed here, Canon and Sony have been going toe to toe. With Canon now also participating in the mirrorless market, it remains to be seen whether the company is able to surpass Sony. Nikon and Fujifilm are nowhere to be seen, especially since Fujifilm has launched some exciting cameras this year. One of the reasons for the latter could also be the lack of restocking of cameras, such as the X100VI, which was sold out instantly. As a result, it would be challenging to have the brand amongst other photo brands, as they have a larger R&D setup.

It is, however, not surprising to see Tamron have better shares for lenses. The company has been excelling at what they do, quietly launching products that work exceptionally well on Sony and Nikon cameras. Sigma, in that regard, has been having difficulties to launch all-round zoom lenses that are quick and light weight. Naturally, Tamron becomes an ideal option for various users, especially those who work across genres.
Kodak’s revival is something that must be studied. The company’s point-and-shoot fixed lens cameras are cost-effective and fun, and so, they are able to keep their legacy going. While you have older offerings from Canon or Nikon, Kodak‘s PixPro series have been loved by Gen Z and Gen Alpha. Even on Amazon’s best-selling list in the United States, Kodak continues to reign the digital compact point and shoot market.
DJI has the most votes when it comes to drone cameras, with the company facing zero competition from anyone. They do not have anyone to challenge them, so their presence on the list is certainly understandable.
The best-selling photo brands only prove which manufacturers are more accomplished across the board. This is not pertaining to the cameras or lenses, but also rebates, communication, and presence. Today, most cameras are quite alike; they make excellent photos, and they can capture great videos too. The same goes for lenses. With a genuine lack of bigger innovation, one either depends on word of mouth or relies on brands with which they began their journey. Perhaps, this list can be a wake-up call to manufacturers themselves to shake things up and change their strategy for the better. If not, then these similar brands will take up the crown.
