Nikon is one of the few companies that have truly altered its image. They went from being disliked to many people’s favorite in the past few years, especially in the mirrorless segment. In fact, it is after years that Nikon has managed to win a crowd of critics, reviewers, and users, which even Canon has been failing to do so in the mirrorless era. While the company’s APS-C cameras are not up to the mark yet, they are finding a way to get the device out there. One of the newest and most wonderful manners is launching a limited edition of the Z fc with Heralbony.
So, what is this limited edition deal about? To give you a better idea, let us talk to you about Heralbony first. The company is based in Japan and has been dedicating its resources and time to changing the preconceived notions of disability. The company licenses the art of disabled artists and promotes their work. With this collaboration, Nikon is further pushing the boundaries and making its models more inclusive in whatever ways it can.
The limited Z fc models will feature artworks from neurodivergent artists, which will not only help you support a better cause but also help to make your camera a tool of expression in every way. This comes at a time when Nikon’s Z9 model became one of the first cameras to have great autofocus performance, especially on people of color. Usually, in the dark, many companies and their cameras focus on people with more melanin in their skin than white people. And now, with the collaboration with Heralbony, Nikon is proving they care about changing society, too.

The Z fc models, thus, have premium exterior designs created by contracted artists from Heralbony, which have been licensed by Nikon. About four different artworks are available, which have been carefully curated by the companies for Nikon users. This collaborative edition also features a welcoming screen when the camera is turned on and distinct packaging. This collaborative edition includes exclusive welcome screens that can be displayed when the camera is turned on, plus the camera comes in specially designed packaging, enriching the user experience.
While this is a great way to encourage users to help them contribute to a better future, the Z fc is not the model that they should have used this for. The only reason is that the Z fc is not a perfect APS-C camera. In our review of the device, we said: “I really, really wanted to like the Nikon ZFc. But it’s a disappointment. If it gets some powerful firmware upgrades, then it would be more enjoyable. Even then, I think you’re better off sticking to Fuji at the moment. And that’s sad, as I believe that Nikon could genuinely be the ones to challenge Fuji at their retro game.”
Instead, the company should have used the ZF, a full-frame retro camera that would do more justice to this collaboration. Perhaps this must have made the limited edition costlier than an APS-C camera. Either way, we believe Nikon’s efforts won’t go to waste.
The Nikon Z fc Heralbony edition, which comes with a DX 16-50mm f3.5-6.3 VR lens, will be available at $1,199.95 and sold exclusively in Nikon USA stores. For more information, visit Nikon’s website.
