I’ve been in love with Tiffen filters for years now. Often switching between Glimmerglass and Pro Mist Black filters, my images often have a look that mimics the way that I see the world. Sure, everyone calls it a vibe. But I call it kerataconus — and it’s a condition that I’ve had for years. Recently, I wanted a Pro Mist filter that also combined warming characteristics on top of locking my white balance. So when I found the Tiffen Warm Black Pro Mist filters, I had to buy some.
These filters are basically everything that you’d get with a Black Pro Mist filter. So they diffuse the contrast in the scene, add halation, soften skin, and lighten the colors. Some folks call it an analog or cinematic look. But for me, it’s just how I see the world. My eye glasses are transitions — and when there’s a lot of sun in my face, the lenses turn to a brownish color. I’ve joked for a while that this has given me a rosy perspective on life. But in truth, it actually has given my mood a positive upswing. In this case, the Warm Black Pro Mist filters are doing something similar.
If you wear transitions lenses, you might have a gray or brown transition to them. While gray is usually better for objective color differentiation, the warmer ones make you feel better. So for my own mental health, I chose the brown look.
Mind you, the Warm Black Pro Mist filters don’t transition. Instead, you put them on the lens and just shoot. Everything gets warmer, diffused, and arguably more attractive. Some of us would liken the render to a dreamy look and feel that brings up nostalgia.
Honestly, I can’t find a fault with the Warm Black Pro Mist filters. They work, and I’d buy them all over again. Truly, there isn’t much else to say. You can get them easily on Amazon.
