Fujifilm has brought their latest technologies to all of their main X-series cameras except one – the X-E line. So naturally, the common line of thought is that a potential X-E3 is likely to be the company’s next announcement. For those unaware, the X-E3 would be to the [amazon_textlink asin=’B01A8DUR74′ text=’X-Pro2′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’c266e20b-76da-11e7-ac42-539da8a3b084′] what the X-T20 is to the X-T2, but the latest reports are indicating that we may have some surprise additions to the X-E line to sweeten the deal a little.
According to the latest report out of Fuji Rumors, the X-E3 will cost more than the [amazon_textlink asin=’B01N10DKLK’ text=’Fujifilm X-T20′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’a92a0288-76da-11e7-94f2-e3328e3d6d73′], which would lend credence to other reports of new and more advanced features making their way into the X-E3 that are not included on the X-T20. As of this writing, you can pick up the [amazon_textlink asin=’B01N10DO3R’ text=’X-T20 body only for $899′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’b5cfc508-76da-11e7-83cd-5b073a807d35′], which would mean the potential X-E3 would be north of that, though how far north is anyone’s guess at this point. It may seem odd to some, as generally the X-E line has been looked at as the runt of the four main X-Series camera lines.
But when you look at some of the features that are being reported as likely additions to the X-E3, you begin to see why it may make more sense. For example, in other reports, it has been said that the X-E3 will sport the AF Joystick that both the X-T2 and X-Pro2 have, which would be a MAJOR one-up over the X-T20. As well, it’s also been reported that the X-E3 will feature Bluetooth (and X-Series first) and 4K video (making the X-Pro2 the only X-Trans III based camera without it) and is expected to be smaller than the X-E2 – how much smaller, though, is unclear.
If the above reports are correct, it would seem to indicate that Fujifilm is going to position the X-E3 as more of a middle ground camera between the flagships and the X-T20 price wise. Which would make sense, for even if the price premium is just $100-200 over the X-T20 that would be similar to the difference between the [amazon_textlink asin=’B01I3LNMAM’ text=’X-T2′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’ca394ba9-76da-11e7-816c-1134136f2a03′] and X-Pro2.
We are definitely interested in seeing how this all turns out. Be sure to stay tuned and we will keep you updated once Fujifilm makes their X-E3 announcement official.
