The past decade and a half has seen some wonderful compact camera options. From Nikon to Ricoh, each brand has something exciting for users. But in 2026, does it make sense to get these cameras when there are more sophisticated models out there. If you are wondering about this, have a look.
Ricoh GR II: Best For Street Photographers

Ricoh has some fantastic cameras in their portfolio. The Ricoh GR II is the second variant that offers a lot to young photographer. The company offers a 16MP sensor, along with a 18mm lens. It is also one of the last cameras to focus a built-in flash. The focusing system is pretty good, and it can focus even in low light. The photos offer lots of details, and the colors are pretty punchy. There is also plenty of sharpness, to make things better. Images are great even at ISO 6400, making it ideal for night photography. In fact, in some cases, we find the camera to be better than Fujifilm and Olympus’s own offering. Street photographers on a budget will certainly adore this one.
Canon G1X Mk III: Best All-Round APS-C Camera

Canon has some wonderful PowerShot cameras, and the Canon G1X Mk III is one such model. The camera is known for its form factor, making it ideal for travel and street photography. The device comes with a 24MP APS-C sensor, a zoom lens of 24-72mm lens, and a large LCD. The device is weather-sealed, and very popular again due to how much detail it can capture. The autofocus of the camera is perfect for various situations, and one can get a lot out of it. The photographs are clear, but also colorful. With a lens filter, one can get unique images. With an in-camera filter, one can also get some distinct images. For instance, Toy Camera mode makes everything seem less serious and fun. It is a camera you bring with you everywhere you go. As we added, “It does everything the Ricoh GR series does plus it has a zoom lens and weather resistance. It can emulate the look of Fujifilm’s RAW files.”
Fujifilm X70: Best Travel Camera

Fujifilm has made some wonderful cameras and lenses. The X70 is a camera that offers a bit of both. The model comes with a 16.3MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS II, an 18.5mm f2.8, and 1.04m-Dot tilting LCD. The camera needs a successor, but until we wait for it, the camera is something one can use even today. One of the best point and shoot, it has some lovely retro design and buttons, and it is so small it can fit into your pocket. The lens is really sharp, and the color rendition is beautiful. In some ways, it is a camera that outdoes full-frame cameras. If you are looking for a camera that is fun to use, and much better than a phone, this is the model to go after.
Nikon CoolPix A: Best Small Camera For Everyday Use

Nikon has some wonderful compact cameras, and the CoolPix A is one such offering. You get a 12MP APS-C CMOS sensor, along with a 28mm f2.8 lens and 21k-dot TFT LCD. The biggest selling point is, its size, which measures just 111 x 40mm and weighs 299g. In addition, it offers fantastic images, and the lens’ distortion control adds to it. The camera can offer some lovely black and white images after conversion. High ISO results are ideal at 12,800, which makes life easy if you want to shoot in the evening. As we added in the review, “The APS-C sensor in the Coolpix A produces a very usable RAW file, you can recover completely blown highlights in most cases as long as your exposure is spot on (which it usually is thanks to the great matrix metering system).” Given various things, this makes the CoolPix A ideal today.
