Leica is a popular brand that continues to be loved by generations of serious photographers. The company has earned a reputation for not just delivering fantastic photos but being a device that can be passed down within a family with pride. For this reason, we take a look at three cameras that one can invest in for their long-term needs.
Leica Q3
Leica has introduced some wonderful cameras over the years. The Leica Q3 is a luxurious compact camera designed for professionals today. The camera comes with a full-frame 60MP sensor, designed for details, and a 28mm prime lens. The camera body comes with an IP53 weather-sealing, a burst rate of 15fps, and the autofocus is quick with great eye AF. Bird and animal AF are also great additions for those who have pets. The photos, too, are great, with Leica giving good, rich colors. It is also quite punchy, and provides good details. The sensor noise is low, and the RAW files are quite versatile. As we added in our review, “I used the Leica Q3 to photograph kids in a sprinkler. That’s right, I took a $6k camera around humans with under-developed prefrontal cortexes and a steady stream of water. Despite a few splashes, I didn’t have any issues except needing to wipe the front of the lens.” The camera is not just sturdy but also powerful.
Leica M11
Leica also makes some fantastic manual cameras that are designed for professionals. The M11 comes from a long series of such spectacular models. It not only has a 60MP resolution, it can also shoot 36MP and 18MP resolutions, making it the first camera of its kind. There is also an internal 64GB storage that acts as a second SD card, ideal for those working every day. The images capture fine details with ease, and the colors are pretty lovely. The focusing system is manual, so you must depend on your intuition for this. As we said in our review, “Despite all this, my favorite photos from this review were shot while zone focusing. Indeed, when used the right way, the Leica M11 is a set-it-and-forget-it style of camera. And I love it for that.” A camera like this can be used for documentaries, weddings, portraits and other such genres who want graceful images.
Leica DLUX 8
Another compact camera, the DLUX 8 is a recently added point-and-shoot designed for young photographers. It comes with a 17MP 4/3 camera, a 24-75mm lens, and leaf shutter. The latter makes it easy to high-speed sync. There is also a 3-inch TFT LCD, along with some functions around the lens and the body. The DLUX 8 offers a good battery life, which is better than most 4/3rd cameras, while the autofocus is quick, just like the Leica SL2s. If you want to use it for fast-paced shooting, you can rely on it. The RAW files are great, and the photos are pretty great in good light. Avoid shooting at high ISOs as it can result in noisy images. The DLUX 8 is best for those on a budget.
