Travel photography is one of the genres that requires a compact setup with a good lens. While there are many brands that offer just that, Sony has been pretty much doing a better job than most. If you are someone who has been wondering which camera you must opt for, then this model is the best you can do. Have a look.

The model we are talking about is the Sony RX1R Mk III, a premium compact camera that is designed to meet the needs of those who travel a lot.

An Excellent Build

The Sony RX1R comes from a line of compact cameras, and it has the same battery as the original Sony A7 cameras. In other words, the battery is alright, and we do wish it would have been better. But other than that, the camera offers a nice, small build, and it can be easily carried around the whole day. The design, as you can see, is simple, with not much at the front of the camera. However, you have dials on the top right and at the back. There is also a large screen that helps you get things done. However, the lack of weather sealing can be quite challenging. This is not such a huge deal since other point and shoots such as Q3 and GFX 100RF also have the same challenge.

Good Autofocus

The company offers a decent autofocus system that works best when photographing in AF-S mode. It means you can shoot at shutter speed as low as 1/5th of a second, without seeing major shakes. The latter is only possible if you have been shooting handheld for a bit. Moreover, the Sony camera is like the a7r V, but designed for those who want a tiny body. It is also not designed for every kind of photographer, so those who have more patience will like it. The autofocus can work with AF-C mode, when you frame and recompose. The camera focuses well in low light, even when the autofocus illuminator is set to the “off” position. So, travel photographers who want to shoot in the dark will have to play a bit.

Image Quality That Sings

The camera offers a 61MP sensor, but it can only shoot large JPEGs that shoot 40MP images. The film simulations are pretty fun to use, and they can appear like Superia at times and PRO 400H. The JPEG files feel very good, it can deliver images that appear like the NEX C3 from 2011. That is not a bad thing at all, especially since those images were adored. In other words, people who adore retro aesthetics will like the device. With the 35mm f2 lens, you also get some exceptional bokeh to work with.

The Sony device costs about $5,000, which is a lot. Travel photographers who are comfortable with Sony must opt for this one. You get a variety of things in a compact design. It’s a camera you won’t want to leave.
