When it comes to choosing a good zoom lens, people are often stuck with some limiting options. However, when one is traveling, they often rely on a lens that can get a wide focal range, without the need of carrying two different lenses. Tamron is a manufacturer that has worked on a solution for those who need such specific lenses. Today, we look back at a few options that can help travel image-makers.
Tamron 25-200mm f2.8-5.6 G2

Designed with 18 elements in 14 groups, the 25-200mm is an ideal zoom lens for portraits, streets, or sporting events. With a close focusing distance of 0.16m on the wide angle side, the zoom lens offers a nice autofocus, which we believe is partly owned by Sony. The image quality is clean, sharp, and pretty crisp. One can even call the photos dreamy, which is a contrast given Sony’s sharp results.

The zoom lens offers a wide focal range, and weighs just 610g. It has image stabilization, which is great for those shooting handheld. The lens is weather sealed, has no internal zoom mechanism, and can appear large-ish on a mirrorless camera. Design aside, the 28-300mm’s autofocus can find faces, even in low light. The lens is not just affordable, but offers nice colors, sharpness, and innovation. As we added in our review, “As I went through the images I shot, I couldn’t help but add a star rating to so many. I liked so much of what I made with this lens.” The lens has earned our Editor’s Choice Award, proving why it is a must-have.
Tamron 35-150mm F2-2.8 Di III VXD

The 35-150mm offers a nice wide aperture range, along with 2.6 lbs of weight. The zoom lens offers 9 round aperture blades, is sealed really well, and offers nice large rings for focus and zoom. There is a lack of image stabilization, but it offers a nice, and quick autofocus. The lens can track pretty well, both humans and animals, and does a fantastic job on both Sony and Nikon cameras. “And the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 is very obviously a lens designed for professionals. In fact, it’s pretty much one of the most innovative lenses on the market still to this day,” we added in our review. As for the images, the bokeh is smooth, and the colors are perfect. You also get some nice sharpness and flare, which makes things better for portraits and landscapes alike.
Tamron 50-400mm f4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD

The 50-400mm is a new version of the 100-400mm focal length. It offers 1:2 macro reproduction at 50mm and weighs the same as a 100-400mm. The focus ring is narrower than the zoom lens, and you also get nice custom controls. The lens offers moisture-resistant construction, and the autofocus is a pretty quick wide-angle lens. The focus works just as well on the telephoto end, making the lens ideal for travel, birding and wildlife. At the telephoto end, you get smooth bokeh, some nice colors, and there is some vignetting at the wide end. Overall, the Tamron zoom lens is fantastic for anyone looking for budget offering
