Whether one likes it or not, Canon has some truly impressive cameras available in the second-hand market. One of the reasons to buy it used is that not only does one get a device at a discounted rate, but also that technology hasn’t changed drastically over the past decade. A camera launched in 2015 can still be used even today. You just need to know how to use it. If you are a young photographer, these offerings can be helpful.
Canon EOS R7

There is a lot to like about the R7. Introduced with a 32MP sensor, the camera is an ideal choice for various genres including sports, wildlife, and bird photography. It offers an exceptional image stabilization system, and when paired with L-series lenses, you have a powerhouse. The autofocus has been refined over the years, enabling the camera to track people, animals, birds, and vehicles with ease. The other reason is that you get exceptional JPEG images, making it ideal for those who largely shoot for the web. This means you get good colors right out of the device and a high ISO result that works in most situations. And, on eBay, you can purchase it for just $1000.
Canon 7D Mk II

The only DSLR on the list, the 7D MK II, is the predecessor to the R7. With a 20MP sensor and a robust build, the camera survived a rainstorm in NYC. The build quality is nice, you get a good grip, but where it really stands out is the autofocus. We felt it’s better than Nikon’s and in low light, the results are exemplary. As we explained in our review, “Though Nikon does a great job, the 7D Mk II outdid pretty much everything that we’ve ever tested from Nikon in low light shooting situations. This was incredibly surprising because we didn’t expect the system to at all be this good.” The JPEG quality is okay, but you get better results with RAW. You can pull details easily, the colors are nice, and the high ISO results are good, too.
Canon R50

The R50 was one of the most sold cameras in 2025. What makes the model impressive is that it is quite cheap. The 24MP camera comes with intelligent autofocus modes, including the ability to recognize eyes (human and animal) and vehicles. As we said, “The camera can detect the eyes of humans, pets, and wildlife, making the challenge of photographing active kids, athletes, or animals much more effortless. The camera can also recognize subjects like bikes and cars.” Ergonomically, it feels like the M50, which is great for those who want portability. The only issue is that it is not weather-sealed, so you have to be careful. Those who are now beginning their journey will also be happy with its 28 JPEG and 7 RAW file burst rate. The JPEGs are also better than your phone’s, especially in contrast and color. Overall, you have a device that can handle day to day shoot.
